Today I pay tribute to my cat.

Lucy, My Office Assistant

Lucy, My Office Assistant

Lucy died two weeks ago and, as I reflect on her life, I realize how much she was a part of Money Care.
I left my job in February 2005 to begin work as a Daily Money Manager. A few weeks later my family adopted Lucy from our local Humane Society.

Lucy was always waiting for me when I returned from networking meetings and, as Money Care steadily grew, from client meetings.
Lucy was my Office Assistant, as only a cat can be. She knew exactly with which papers I was working and sat right on top of those. She rubbed her chin against my pens as I tried to write. She helped me type by running across the keyboard, adding extra letters to my text. More than once she changed the view on my computer monitor and I had to search the internet to figure out how to reverse her work. When Lucy was not actively helping me in my office, she kept me company, often looking out the window, dreaming of the birds beyond.

Lucy will always have a presence in Money Care’s office. Just a few months ago she stepped on an ink pad and proceeded to mark my desk, papers and pants. The ink washed out of my clothes. The papers have been shredded. But, a blue paw print remains in the center of my desk.
